What Powertrain Options Does the Dodge Hornet Have?

Perhaps the most exciting thing about the 2023 Dodge Hornet is its powerful engine options. The GT and GT Plus trims kick off the lineup with a powerful 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine that delivers 268 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission powering all four wheels with an intelligent all-wheel drive system that uses active torque vectoring for phenomenal performance even on sharp corners. The R/T trim offers Dodge’s first-ever plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) powertrain. Underneath the hood, powering the front wheels, is a 1.3L turbocharged I-4 engine. Meanwhile, powering the rear wheels, you’ll find an electric motor mounted to the rear axle. Working together, the turbocharged internal combustion engine and the rear axle-mounted electric motor provide excellent all-wheel-drive handling. The 15.5-kilowatt 306-volt battery pack is recharged by an external power source. This setup gives the Hornet R/T 288 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque, 180 of which is instantly available for phenomenal response times. The PHEV powertrain sends power to the wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission. The all-new PowerShot feature, exclusive to the R/T trim, is activated by pulling both paddle shifters while accelerating to provide a burst of 25 additional horsepower for fifteen seconds.

How Safe is the 2023 Dodge Hornet?

Dodge set out with the goal to make the 2023 Hornet as safe as it is exciting. That’s why it comes with a full suite of advanced safety features to give you peace of mind on the road. Many of the safety features come as standard equipment, while some others come only on the higher trim levels. Standard across the Hornet lineup, you’re protected by automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, automatic high beams headlights, forward collision mitigation with full stop, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, blindspot monitoring with rear cross-path warning, rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, and lane-keep assist. Meanwhile, opting for a higher trim level, you’ll gain a 360-degree surround-view camera, drowsy driver detection, parallel/perpendicular park assist, active driving assist, front parking sensors, and more.

Standard Design Features for the 2023 Dodge Hornet

While the exterior design of the 2023 Doddge Hornet captures the brand’s spirit with an aggressive attitude, the interior is performance-focused yet refined. Looking at the Hornet head-on, you’ll face an intimidating glare from slim headlight housings with bright LED bulbs and LED daytime running lights. The grille features a mailslot opening made famous by the Charger models. Pronounced dual heat extractors occupy the hood aiding in engine cooling and adding to the overall muscular appearance. Black cladding is used on the front and rear bumpers, wheel wells, and rocker panels, adding a touch of ruggedness while protecting these areas. The swooping roofline provides optimal aerodynamics and leads back to a slanted D-pillar at the rear. Across the trunk lid, you’ll see a slim LED light bar connecting the taillights with an illuminated Dodge Rhombi symbol at the center. Inside the 2023 Dodge Hornet is the epitome of the modern compact SUV, featuring the latest technologies and comfort features. Dodge has made their driver-focused interior emblematic of their models over the years, angling the center console toward the driver. The Hornet uses this layout with a 10.25-inch Uconnect 5 infotainment touchscreen at the top of the center stack. Behind the steering wheel sits a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster that can be customized to fit the driver’s preferences. The ignition button is found on the lower segment on the driver’s side of the center stack, putting it within easier reach. Other standard features include dual-zone automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, six speakers, premium cloth upholstery, and more.
