Plus, the ideal SUV should have a suite of safety features to help you drive with confidence. Read on as we compare the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L to the Ford Explorer to determine which SUV is the strongest choice!

What are the Jeep Grand Cherokee L’s Engine Options?

The Jeep Grand Cherokee L has four trim levels in the 2023 lineup, and there are two impressive engine options to choose from. There’s a standard 3.6-liter V6 engine, as well as an available 5.7-liter V8. Both of these come with an 8-speed automatic transmission, and while the V8 comes with standard 4-wheel drive, you can opt for available 4-wheel drive with the V6 as well. When properly equipped, the Jeep Grand Cherokee L can tow up to 6,200 pounds, and it can even ford up to 24 inches of water with the help of the Quadra-Lift Air Suspension System. Plus, its maximum ground clearance measures 10.9 inches, helping you drive over obstacles like rocks or branches on off-road trails. The most athletic trim is the Overland, which features skid plates, tow hooks, hill-descent control, and more!

What are the Ford Explorer’s Engine Options?

For the 2023 model year, the Ford Explorer has an extensive lineup of eight trim levels. However, there are just three powertrain options available for the range. First up, there’s the standard engine, a 2.3-liter four-cylinder that delivers 300 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. IF you’re looking for a bit more oomph, you can opt for the 3.0-liter V6 rated at 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque. The third and final engine option is available on select trim levels, and that’s the 3.3-liter V6 that kicks out 318 horsepower. All-wheel drive is available across the board, but unfortunately the 2023 Ford Explorer does not offer 4-wheel drive. Also, its maximum towing capacity isn’t quite as high as the Grand Cherokee L’s, rated at just 5,600 pounds.

What are the Design Features of the Jeep Grand Cherokee L?

Each trim level of the Jeep Grand Cherokee L has a unique theme, which brings you a different selection of features and functions. Some standard features for the lineup are introduced with the Laredo, including LED headlights, a Uconnect 5 infotainment system, and a standard safety package with features like blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and more. The Limited trim is next, and it adds features like heated, Capri leather-trimmed seats, fog lights, and a 10.1-inch touchscreen. The Overland has all the great athletic features we mentioned above, as well as a built-in navigation system, 20-inch wheels, a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, and more. Lastly, the Summit features premium Nappa leather-trimmed seats, a surround-view camera, and a gloss black roof.

What are the Design Features of the Ford Explorer?

The Ford Explorer has a huge lineup of vehicles for its 2023 model year, with eight trim levels total. The first model in the lineup is simply known as the “base” model, and it has a no-frills design with features like a six-speaker sound system, an 8-inch touchscreen, and cloth upholstery. Upper trim levels like the ST-Line come with a more upscale look and feel thanks to the addition of features like a wireless smartphone charger, ambient interior LED lighting, and heated front seats. If you’re looking for a sportier model, the Timberline offers features like all-terrain tires, while the Platinum is the top-tier model with features like real wood and leather interior accents. The Explorer’s standard safety package is included across the board, but isn’t quite as comprehensive as the Grand Cherokee L’s package.
